In the first half of 2026
Building permits in the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased compared to the same period in the previous year, while completed buildings dropped
In the first half of 2026, a total of 330 buildings were licensed, representing an increase of 19.1% compared with the same period in 2025 (277).
Of the licensed construction and demolition projects, 74.5% corresponded to new buildings (246), with a significant majority of 91.5% being intended for residential purposes (225 in total). These works resulted in the licensing of 718 dwellings in new constructions for family housing, representing a 27.5% increase compared to the first half of 2025, when 563 dwellings were licensed.
With regard to completed buildings, in the half under review, there was a decrease of 1.6% compared with the same period of the previous year, totalling 188 completed buildings. Among these, 73.4% were new constructions designed for residential housing (138 in total).
When focusing on the completed dwellings within these new residential constructions (414 in total), the results indicate a decrease of 16.5% compared to the same half in 2025 (496 dwellings).
