Release for consumption of the main fuels grew by 2.6% compared to the previous year
According to data provided by the Funchal Customs, in 2025, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the release for consumption of the main fuels (diesel and gasoline) exceeded 170.2 million litres, having grown by 2.6% compared to the previous year. Breaking down by main fuel type shows that 108.5 million litres of diesel were released, -0.6% compared to 2024. With regard to the release for consumption of 95-octane and 98-octane gasoline, it amounted to 48.6 and 13.1 million litres, respectively, corresponding to year-on-year changes of +7.8% and +12.8%.
In the case of propane and butane gas, the release for consumption in 2025 stood at around 11.7 and 4.4 thousand tonnes, respectively (+7.3% and -10.6% compared to the previous year), whilst for natural gas, the volume released was 31.8 thousand tonnes (+3.5% compared to 2024).
Narrowing the scope of analysis to the 4th quarter of 2025, it can be observed that in this period, the release for consumption of the main fuels (diesel and gasoline) reached 42.2 million litres, a value 0.9% above that of the same period of the previous year. In that quarter, demand for diesel was 27.1 million litres (-2.1% compared to the same quarter of 2024). With regard to gasoline, between October and December 2025, the volume released of 95-octane and 98-octane gasoline was 11.8 and 3.4 million litres, having increased by 5.9% and 10.3%, respectively, compared to the same period of the previous year.
Average 2025 gasoline prices decreased compared to 2024, whilst diesel prices increased
In 2025, the average maximum retail price of diesel was 1.404 euros, having increased by 7.6 cents compared to 2024. The opposite trend was observed for 95-octane gasoline, whose average price was 1.546 euros, representing a decrease of 4.2 cents between 2024 and 2025.
In the 4th quarter of 2025, the average price of diesel stood at 1.459 euros, above that recorded in the same period of the previous year (1.283 euros) and in the previous quarter (1.451 euros). In the case of 95-octane gasoline, the average price in the last quarter of 2025 was 1.583 euros, reflecting an increase of 4.8 cents compared to the price recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year and an increase of 1.0 cents compared to the preceding quarter.
