The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today on its website two publications – one for December 2016 and the other for the year 2016  - with data concerning the Consumer Prices Index

In December 2016, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in Madeira was -0.6%, 0.1 percentage point higher than the previous month.

The largest downward pressure on the annual average rate of change occurred in the classes of "Transports" (-5.7%) and "Clothing and footwear" (-1.5%). On the opposite side, "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" (+3.2%) and "Communications" (+2.8%) recorded the largest positive changes.

In Portugal, the value of that rate was 0.6%, the same as in the previous month.

In December 2016, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region was 0.7% higher than the previous month.
