12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index was 4.1%

In February 2024, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the 12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was +4.1%, which was 0.5 percentage points (pp) lower than the previous month.

The underlying inflation indicator, measured by the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy products, showed a rate of 4.3%, which was 0.4 pp lower than the previous month.

Goods recorded a rate of +3.7%, and services +4.5%.

The classes of "Restaurants and Hotels" class (+10.4%) and "Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages" (+9.4%) experienced the most significant increases. The "Transport" class (-0.3%) was the only one in which the 12-month average rate of change of the CPI decreased.

In the country, the CPI recorded an average change rate of +3.3%, which was 0.5 pp lower than the previous month (+3.8%). In year-on-year terms, comparing February 2024 with the same month in 2023, the price change was +2.8% (+2.1% in the country), a decrease of 0.2 pp compared to the previous month.

On a monthly basis, in February 2024, there was a price increase of 0.5% (-0.2% in the previous month). Nationally, the change was null, as recorded in the previous month.

In February 2024, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region showed a change of +0.8% compared to the previous month and +6.4% compared to the same month last year.
