12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) remained at 3.5%
In August 2025, the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) recorded a 12-month average rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 3.5%, the same value as in the preceding month.
The underlying inflation indicator — the indicator that excludes unprocessed food and energy products — was also 3.5%, 0.1 percentage points (pp) lower than in July.
The prices of goods rose by 2.4%, whereas services registered a more significant increase of 4.9%.
The largest positive changes were observed in the expenditure classes “Restaurants and hotels” (10.0%), “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (4.7%), and “Health” (4.2%). Conversely, the class “Clothing and footwear” was the only one to record a negative change, of -0.3%.
At the national level, the average rate of change of the CPI stood at 2.4% in August, 0.1 pp higher than in the previous month.
In year-on-year terms, i.e., comparing August 2025 with the same month in 2024, the rate of change in prices in the ARM was 3.3%, 0.1 pp higher than in the preceding month. Nationally, the year-on-year rate of change in the CPI was 2.8%, representing an increase of 0.2 pp compared to July 2025.
On a monthly basis, the CPI in the ARM registered a rate of change of 0.1% in August 2025, following a decrease of -0.2% in the previous month. In the country as a whole, the monthly rate of change of the CPI was -0.2%, compared with -0.4% in the previous month.
In August 2025, the average value of dwelling rents per square metre of useful floor area in the Region increased by 0.6% compared with the previous month, and by 7.0% in year-on-year terms (0.5% and 7.0% in the previous month, respectively).
