Twelve-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) remained at 3.2%, but the year-on-year rate of change increased to 3.7%
In April 2026, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the twelve-month average change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.2%, remaining unchanged compared to the previous month.
The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, stood at 2.7%, representing a decrease of 0.1 percentage points (pp) compared to the preceding month.
The prices of goods increased by 2.3%, whilst services recorded a more pronounced increase of 4.2%.
The largest positive changes were observed in the classes of "Restaurants and hotels" (7.8%), "Health" (4.3%) and "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" (4.1%). In the opposite direction, the "Clothing and footwear" class recorded the most pronounced negative change (-1.3%).
Nationally, the CPI presented an average change of 2.4% (2.3% in the previous month).
In year-on-year terms, i.e. comparing April 2026 with the same month of 2025, the price change was 3.7% in the ARM (3.4% nationally), reflecting an increase of 0.5 pp compared to the previous month. The classes of "Transport" (+1.1 pp) and "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" (+0.8 pp) contributed most to the year-on-year change of the CPI, with the largest changes recorded in "Restaurants and hotels" (6.3%), "Transport" (5.4%) and "Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" (4.5%). In the opposite direction, the class with the most pronounced negative change was "Recreation, sport and culture" (-3.5%). Among all aggregates, "energy products" stand out, recording a year-on-year price change of 13.6%. In turn, the prices of goods increased by the same amount as services (3.7%).
At the monthly level, in April 2026, a change of 2.6% was recorded in the ARM (1.4% in the previous month). Nationally, the CPI change was 1.4%, after the 2.0% recorded in March 2026.
In April 2026, the average value of housing rents per square metre of floor area in the Region recorded a change of 0.5% compared to the previous month and 6.6% in year-on-year terms (0.4% and 6.5% in the previous month, respectively).
