In the 4th quarter of 2025

Cinema indicators continued to decline, reflecting the permanent closure of one of the venues

According to provisional data made available by the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), in the 4th quarter of 2025, 1 884 cinema screenings were recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), corresponding to a year-on-year decrease of 40.7%.

The number of spectators stood at 36 448, decreasing by 23.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. Box office revenues reached 243.5 thousand euros, declining by 13.8% year-on-year.

With regard to 2025 as a whole, 10 390 cinema sessions were recorded in the ARM, representing a decrease of 25.6% compared to 2024. January was the month with the highest number of screenings (1 161).

The number of spectators also decreased in 2025, standing at 180 436, corresponding to a decline of 12.1% compared to 2024. June stood out as the month with the highest number of admissions at cinema sessions in the Region (23 143).

In turn, last year, box office revenue amounted to 1 133.2 thousand euros, representing a decrease of approximately 80.2 thousand euros (-6.6%) compared to the preceding year.

It should be noted that the 2025 data were affected by the permanent closure of one of the cinema venues located in the ARM.
