In the 2nd quarter of 2026
Number of sessions, spectators, and box office revenue in the cinemas of the Autonomous Region of Madeira decreased year-on-year
According to provisional data released by the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), in the 2nd quarter of 2026, 2 046 cinema sessions were recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), corresponding to a decrease of 38.0% compared with the same period of 2025.
The number of spectators stood at 48 601, down by 19.3% year-on-year, while box office revenue was around 333.3 thousand euros, 8.4% less compared with the same period of the previous year.
In cumulative terms, the data show that, in the 1st half of 2026, cinemas in the ARM held 3 948 sessions, which attracted 91 555 viewers and generated 625.3 thousand euros in box office revenue. Compared with the same period of 2025, there were decreases of 38.0% in the number of sessions held and 8.2% in the number of spectators, while box office revenue increased by 3.6%.
It should be noted that in 2025 one of the cinema venues located in the ARM permanently closed.
