Natural decrease of the population, but less pronounced than in the same period of 2018
Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that in the first three quarters of 2019, the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a natural decrease (-630 persons), since the number of live births in this period (1,404) was smaller than the number of deaths (2,034). In the same period of 2018, the natural change had also been negative (-671 persons, the difference between 1,443 live births and 2,114 deaths).
Until September 2019, 4 deaths under 1 year and 3 dead foetuses were reported. In the January to September 2018 period, the number of deaths under 1 year was the same and there were 5 dead foetuses.
In the period of reference, 729 marriages took place in the registry offices of the Region, up by 20 from the same period of 2018.
