In June 2026

Temperature stood above the climatological normal, while precipitation fell below it

The Directorate for Statistics of Madeira (DREM) is today releasing the summary of the main meteorological data for June 2026, simultaneously updating the corresponding Dashboard. This information¹ is provided by the Delegation of the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere, I.P. (IPMA, I.P.), in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM).

Air temperature

In June, the highest average air temperature was recorded at the Funchal/Observatory station (22.1 °C), while the lowest occurred at the Chão do Areeiro station (14.4 °C).

Compared with the climatological normal² for June, all meteorological stations with information available for this analysis recorded average temperatures higher than their respective reference values. The largest positive deviation was observed at the Chão do Areeiro station, where the average temperature (14.4 °C) was 2.0 °C above its climatological normal.

As for extreme air temperatures, the absolute maximum temperature was recorded at the Porto Moniz station (28.0 °C), on the 23rd, while the absolute minimum temperature occurred at the Pico do Areeiro (CFM) station, with 5.9 °C, on the 5th.

Precipitation

In June, the highest precipitation total was recorded at the Santana meteorological station, with 29.2 mm. In contrast, the Selvagem Grande station did not record any precipitation.

Compared with the climatological normal² for June, all meteorological stations with information available for this analysis recorded precipitation totals lower than their respective reference values. The largest negative deviation was observed at the Chão do Areeiro station, where precipitation was 29.1 mm below the climatological normal.

Regarding the number of days with precipitation, the Santo da Serra station recorded the highest number of days with precipitation equal to or higher than 0.1 mm (18 days). Considering the 1.0 mm threshold, the Santana station stood out with 8 days.

As for days with precipitation equal to or higher than 10.0 mm, the maximum value was 1 day, recorded at the Lugar de Baixo, São Jorge, Santana and Pico do Areeiro stations. With regard to the 20.0 mm and 30.0 mm thresholds, no occurrences were recorded.

Relative humidity

In June, relative air humidity ranged, in monthly average terms, between 54%, at the Pico do Areeiro station, and 94%, at the Santo da Serra station. The minimum daily value (2%) was recorded at the Pico do Areeiro station, on the 30th, while the maximum value (100%) was reached at 10 meteorological stations, on different days of the month.

Wind

In June, among the meteorological stations with wind information available, the highest average intensity was recorded at the Selvagem Grande station, with 27.6 km/h, while the lowest occurred at the Monte station, with 3.6 km/h. The maximum wind gust (94 km/h) was recorded at the Santa Catarina/Aeroporto station, on the 9th, and at the Pico Alto station, on the 8th.

Sunshine

In June, the Santa Catarina/Aeroporto station recorded 263.2 hours of clear sunshine, followed by Porto Santo/Aeroporto, with 235.7 hours, and Funchal/Observatory, with 212.3 hours.

Sea water

In June, the average sea water temperature, measured at the Molhe da Pontinha (Funchal), was 20.7 °C. The daily average temperature ranged between 19.8 °C, recorded on the 1st, and 21.8 °C, observed on the 25th and 30th.
