Median value of bank appraisals on housing in the Autonomous Region of Madeira hit 10-year high

In December 2020, the average value of bank appraisals on housing in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached €1 179/sq meter, increasing by 0.9% from November 2020 and by 4.4% from the year-ago month. That value is the highest of the available time series which starts in January 2011.

For the flats located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the median value of bank appraisals in the month of reference was €1 187/sq meter, up by 0.3% compared to previous month and 6.0% over December 2019. In the case of row houses the value was lower (€1 143/sq meter), than same value from previous mouth and by 1.1% from the year-ago month.

For Portugal, that same variable stood at €1 156/sq meter in the month of reference, up by 12 euros from the previous month (+1.0%). The year-on-year change rate was +6.0%. The highest values were registered in Algarve (€1 533/sq meter) and Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (€1 525/sq meter) followed by the Autonomous Region of Madeira (€1 179/sq meter).

In 2020, the median value of housing bank in the Autonomous Region of Madeira grew below national average

In 2020, the median value of bank appraisals rose to €1 154/sq meter, an increase of 5.3% compared to 2019. Considering the type of the accommodation, in 2020, the median value of bank appraisals increased by 6.5% in flats and by 3.9% in row houses, to €1 169/sq meter and €1 131 euros/sq meter, respectively. At the country level  (€1 129/sq meter), overall growth was 7.6%, reaching 9.0% in flats and 5.2% in row houses.

Given the available time series, the median value of bank appraisals in the Region has been growing since 2015, with the value of 2020 being the highest of the series.
