In the 4th quarter of 2014
Default ratios of non-financial corporations and households increased; Loans and deposits maintained downward trend
According to the data provided by the Bank of Portugal, the balance of loans granted to non-financial corporations located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached €3.2 billion in the end of the 4th quarter of 2014. The default ratio of this type of corporations stood at 21.7% - a new maximum - 6.7 percentage points (p.p.) higher than the country’s average.
In the household sector, the balance of credit granted in the end of the reference period also amounted to €3.2 billion, with the default ratio on bank loans to households increasing to an historical maximum of 5.9% (0.8 p.p. higher than in Portugal).
The loans in default generated by non-financial corporations amount to €697 million, while the households are responsible for €190 million.
Compared to the previous quarter, the number of borrowers in the households of the Autonomous Region of Madeira dropped by 0.5% to a total of 103,731.The percentage of borrowers with overdue loans was 15.5%.
Deposits and deposit like instruments in the local bank establishments reached a total of €5.2 billion in the end of the 4th quarter of 2014, 1.2% lower than a year before and 0.9% lower than at the end of September.
