Default ratios of households decreased for the first time in almost three years; Overdue loan ratio of enterprises rose again

According to the data released by the Bank of Portugal, the balance of credit granted to non-financial corporations located in the Autonomous Region of Madeira reached €2.95 billion in the end of the 2nd quarter of 2015. The default ratio of this type of corporations climbed to 20.6%, 4.6 percentage points (p.p.) higher than in Portugal.

In the household sector, the balance of credit granted in the end of the reference period amounted to €3.15 billion, with the default ratio on bank loans to households decreasing to 6.0% (down by 0.1 p.p. from the previous quarter). In Portugal, the value of this ratio was 5.1%.

The loans in default generated by non-financial corporations amounted to €607.7 million, while the households were responsible for €189.0 million.

The number of borrowers in Madeira’s households decreased by 1.0% vis-a-vis the previous quarter to a total of 102,513.

Deposits and deposit like instruments in the local bank establishments reached a total of €5.2 billion in the end of the 2nd quarter of 2015, down by 0.9% from the corresponding period of the previous year but up by 0.9% over the last quarter.
