In the 3rd quarter of 2016
Passenger movement in the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased compared to the corresponding period of 2015 while passenger transport by bus decreased. More passengers in the Madeira-Porto Santo sea line, but fewer transit passengers in cruise ships
According to the data compiled by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), passenger transport by bus decreased by 1.3% year-on-year in the reference period. Between January and September of 2016, 12.5 million passengers were counted in the urban lines (year-on year change rate of -1.3%) and 5.9 million in the intercity lines (-2.2%).
In air transport, the airports of Madeira and Porto Santo recorded a movement of 966.6 thousand passengers during the 3rd quarter of 2016, a 12.3% increase compared to the same period of 2015.
In sea transport, the Ports authority counted 30 cruise ships in the seaport of Funchal during the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up by 1 over the same quarter of the previous year). The number of transit passengers decreased by 21.5%. In the first nine month of 2016, the seaport of Funchal received a total of 332,129 transit passengers, the majority of them (89.5%) Europeans. There were more British visiting Madeira during the reference period (129,693, year-on-year change rate of +4.4%) and Germans (119,384;+2.9%) but fewer Italians (15,904; -30,4%). An additional remark to the passenger movement in the Madeira – Porto Santo sea line, which went up by 6.6% year-on-year in the reference period and by 15,7% between January and September of 2016.
Regarding the movement of goods in Madeira's ports, the statistics for the 3rd quarter of 2016 show a positive trend vis-a-vis the same period of 2015 for both the unloaded (+16.8%) and loaded goods (+11.3%).

Number of vehicle sale registries made by the Vehicle Registration Offices of Madeira decreased by 0.7% when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year
In the third quarter of 2016, the Vehicle Registration Offices of Madeira registered the sale of 3 261 vehicles (new and used), 87.1% of which were light passenger vehicles and 11.6% light cargo vehicles. The sale of 42 heavy vehicles (1.3% of the total) was also registered during this period. The number of registries went down by 24 from the corresponding period of 2015 (-0.7%).
Taking in account the first nine month of 2016, the year-on-year change rate in the number of registries was -0.9%.

The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) releases today, on its official statistics website, a time series on Transport Statistics updated with the data for 2015.
The information for the 1976-2015 period is presented in three different chapters:
- Land transport - data on urban and intercity passenger transport by bus, road accidents, registered vehicles sold and insured car park;
- Air transport - data on airport traffic, namely flights, passengers, cargo and mail;
- Maritime transport - data on seaport traffic, namely vessels, passengers and cargo at ports of Madeira.
