Passenger movement at the airports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira increased by 15.1% year-on-year
According to information provided by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal to the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM), passenger movement at the ARM airports totalled 521.9 thousand in June 2025, carried on 3 521 aircraft (commercial flights), corresponding to year-on-year changes of +15.1% and +17.4%, respectively.
In the reference month, Madeira airport recorded an increase in both aircraft movements (3 219; +19.0% compared with June 2024) and passenger traffic (489.5 thousand; +16.0%). At Porto Santo airport, there was also growth in aircraft movements (302; +2.7% compared with the same period of 2024) and passenger movement (32.4 thousand; +2.5%).
In the first six months of 2025, the changes in aircraft movements and passenger number stood at +13.0% and +11.6%, respectively, with a total of 18 452 aircraft movements and 2 686.5 thousand passengers recorded.

In June 2025, each aircraft (considering both landings and take-offs) carried on average around 152 passengers (156 in June 2024) at Madeira airport, while at Porto Santo airport, the figure exceeded 107 passengers (the same as in the corresponding month).
In the month under review, passenger traffic at the ARM airports increased by 20.9% in international traffic (283.1 thousand) and by 8.8% in domestic traffic (238.8 thousand). At Madeira airport, international traffic (57.2%) prevailed over domestic traffic (42.8% of the total). At Porto Santo airport, domestic traffic predominated (90.0% of the total), with a greater imbalance compared with the same period of 2024 (84.5% of the total).
In the reference month, regular flights at the ARM airports accounted for 93.4% of total aircraft movements and 95.1% of passengers (93.2% and 94.9% in June 2024, respectively).
In June 2025, the load factor of aircraft operating at the ARM airports stood at 86.4%, with Madeira airport reaching 86.8% and Porto Santo 81.0%. In the previous year, the corresponding load factors had been higher, both for the two airports combined (88.6%) and individually for Madeira airport (89.2%) and Porto Santo airport (81.1%).
Between January and June 2025, the number of passengers embarking and disembarking at the ARM airports (excluding transit passengers) reached 2 680.3 thousand: 43.9% corresponded to traffic exclusively between airports located in national territory, including inter-island and domestic flights, while 56.1% related to international traffic. Within the latter, the United Kingdom was the main country of origin and destination of international flights at the ARM airports (27.3%), followed by Germany (21.2%) and Poland (10.0%).
