In January 2020, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in Madeira was -0.3%, decreasing by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month.
The highest positive changes were observed in the classes “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" (3.0%) and “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels " (0.9%). Conversely, the largest negative changes occurred in the classes of the "Clothing and footwear" (-5.0%) and “Communications” (-3.3%).
In Portugal, the value of that rate was 0.4%, increasing by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month.
In January 2020, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region was 1.0% higher than in the previous month, increasing by 3.7% from the year-ago month.
