In May 2020, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in Madeira was -0.8%, decreasing by 0.1 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous month.
The largest negative changes occurred in the classes of the "Clothing and footwear" (-4.5%) and “Communications” (-4.2%). Conversely, the highest positive changes were observed in the classes “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" (+1.7%) and “Restaurants and hotels” (+0.6%).
In Portugal, the value of that rate was 0.1%, 0.1 p.p. higher than in the previous month.
In May 2020, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region was 0.8% lower compared to the previous month, increasing by 2.0% vis-à-vis the same month of last year.
