Consumer Prices Index 12-month average rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 2.2%

In March 2022, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in Madeira was 2.2%, increasing by 0.4 percentage points (pp) when compared to the previous month. It should be noted that this indicator has been on an upward trajectory since February 2021 and has been in positive territory since September, reaching this month the highest value in the last 38 months. 

Goods recorded a rate of 2.9% and services of 1.3%.

The highest positive changes occurred in “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (+2.9%) and "Transports" (+8.0%) classes. On the other hand, “Education“ registered the largest negative change (-2.3%) followed by "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” (-0.7%).

In Portugal, the value of that rate was 2.2%, 0.4 pp higher than in the previous month.

The year-on-year rate of the CPI (price change compared to the same month of the previous year) of March 2022 in Madeira was 5.0%, the highest value since April 2013. In Portugal, this rate rose to 5.3%, 0.3 p.p. above the Region. Between February and March 2022, the CPI went up by 2.9% (2.5% in the country).

In March 2022, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region had a change of +0.4% compared to the previous month and increased by 2.5% over the same month of the previous year.
