Consumer Prices Index 12-month average rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 6.1%

In October 2022, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month average rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira was 6.1%, increasing by 0.5 percentage points (pp) when compared to the previous month. It should be noted that this indicator has been on an upward trajectory since February 2021 and in positive territory since September of the same year,  reaching in October 2022 the highest value since October 1994. The underlying inflation indicator, measured by the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy, registered a rate of 5.0%, which is 0.5 pp higher than in the previous month.

Goods recorded a rate of 6.8% and services of 5.0%.

All CPI classes showed positive changes, with the highest positive changes in “Restaurants and Hotels” (+13.2%)”, "Transports" (+11.1%) and "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" (+8.1%).

In Portugal, the value of that rate was 6.7%, 0.7 pp higher than in the previous month (6.0%).

When comparing October 2022 with the same month of 2021, the price change was +8.1% (+10.1% in the country), +0.1 pp compared to the previous month (8.0%), thus reversing the downward trend which began in July, after reaching a peak in June (+8.8%).

In October 2022, the average value of housing rents per square meter of floor area in the Region had a change of +0.5% compared to the previous month and increased by 3.0% over the same month of the previous year.
