Inflation rate in the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood at 3.5%

In 2025, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), the 12-month average rate of change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 3.5%, which was 0.2 percentage points (pp) higher than that recorded in the previous year (3.3%).

The underlying inflation indicator, measured by the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy products, recorded a rate of 3.2%, which was 0.5 pp lower than that observed in 2024 (3.7%).

The prices of goods registered a rate of 2.4%, while services recorded 4.8% (1.9% and 5.3% in 2024, respectively).

The largest increases were observed in the expenditure classes “Restaurants and hotels” (10.0%), “Health” (4.7%) and “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” (4.1%), whereas the “Communications” division (-0.6%) recorded the highest negative change.

At the national level, the 12-month average rate of change of the CPI stood at 2.3% in 2025, corresponding to a decrease of 0.1 pp compared with the previous year (2.4%).

In year-on-year terms, i.e., comparing December 2025 with the same month of 2024, price change stood at 3.1% in the Region (2.2% at the national level), which was 0.2 pp lower than in the previous month (3.3%).

In month-on-month terms, prices in December 2025 increased by 0.7%, following a decrease of 0.8% in the previous month. At the national level, this rate stood at 0.1%, after a negative change of 0.3% in the preceding month.

In December 2025,  the housing rent per square meter of floor area in the Region recorded a month-on-month increase of 0.3% and a year-on-year increase of 6.9% (0.5% and 7.3%, respectively, in the previous month). Between 2024 and 2025, housing rents increased by 7.3%.
