Growth rate of overnight stays in Madeira stood above national average
Initial estimates for April 2015 – the month in which the Flower Festival was celebrated - show increases in the tourism indicators with positive year-on-year rates of change in overnight stays (+3.2%), total revenue (+6.1%) and lodging revenue (+9.9%).
At the country level, the rates of change stood at +0.7% in nights spent, +7.8% in total revenue and +10.9% in revenue from accommodation.
Looking at the data broken down by market, it should be highlighted that the year-on-year change rates in nights spent by the Portuguese and foreign tourists were -7.4% and +4.4%, respectively.
In the first four months of 2015, the overnight stays increased by 5.9% when compared to the same period of 2014, while the growth in total revenue (+8.8%) and lodging revenue (+11.7%) was more pronounced.
The net bed occupancy rate in the reference month reached 66.0%, 2.4 percentage points higher than a year before.
The average income per room (RevPAR) recorded a year-on-year change rate of +10.0%, increasing to € 44.09.
