Number of performances and spectators as well as the revenue decreased year-on-year in the Autonomous Region of Madeira’s cinemas due to the pandemic
According to the provisional data made available by the Institute for Cinema and Audiovisuals (ICA), 5,524 performances were recorded in the cinemas of the Autonomous Region of Madeira in the first nine months of 2020, a 58.2% year-on-year decrease.
The number of spectators stood at 57,501, down by 73.0% and the box office revenues reached 298.9 thousand euros, a 72.7% decrease compared to the same period of 2019.
These results are associated with the closure of cinemas in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), during the 2nd quarter of 2020 and the capacity limit of the theaters since July 2020, following government measures (national and regional) to contain the pandemic of COVID 19.
In fact, the number of performances, of spectators and revenue generated by the cinemas in the 3rd quarter 2020 dropped by 54.7%, 83.5% e 83.2% year-on-year.
