In the first half of 2022
Number of sessions and spectators and also the revenue increased in the cinemas of the Autonomous Region of Madeira
According to the provisional data made available by the Institute for Cinema and Audiovisuals (ICA), 6,294 film sessions were recorded in the cinemas of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, in the first half of 2022, representing a 205.4% increase compared to the same period in 2021.
The number of spectators stood at 69,237, up by 284.2% year-on-year, while the box office revenue soared to 368 thousand euros, a 283.2% increase compared to the same period of 2021.
It should be recalled that following the COVID-19 pandemic containment measures, cinemas in the Region closed during February and March 2021, which was undoubtedly reflected in the above changes for the first half of 2022.
In any case, the figures for the first six months of 2022 are still far from the same period of 2019, with the number of spectators and revenue being 41.6% and 39.1% below that benchmark, respectively.
