In the first nine months of 2016 

Natural change was negative. Number of live births decreased year-on-year

Provisional data of demographic statistics show that in the first three quarters of 2016, the number of live births (1,392) dropped from the corresponding period of 2015 (1,418).

Until the month of September, the number of deaths  stood at 1,939, decreasing by 2.8% over the same period of 2015.

The combination of the data from January to September 2016 for live births and deaths shows that the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a natural decrease (-547 persons), although less pronounced than in the same period of 2015 (-576 persons).

In the first nine months of 2016, four deaths under 1 year and two dead fetuses were registered.

There were also 638 marriages, up by 42 from the same period of 2015.
