Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that in 2016, the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a natural decrease of 755 persons (-664 in 2015).
In 2016, 1,856 live births to mothers living in RAM were recorded, down by 4.7% compared to the previous year (1,947).
The number of registered deaths in this period was the same that in the previous year (2,611).
In the year of reference, five deaths under 1 year and two dead fetuses were registered.
There were also 858 marriages, up by 8.2 % over 2015 (793).
