Natural change was negative. Number of deaths decreased year-on-year
Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that in the first three quarters of 2017, the number of live births (1,403) increased 0,4% from the corresponding period of 2016 (1,397).
Until the month of September, the number of deaths stood at 1,900, decreasing by 2.6% over the same period of 2016.
The combination of the data from January to September 2017 for live births and deaths shows that the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a natural decrease (-497 persons), although less pronounced than in the same period of 2016 (-554 persons).
In the first nine months of 2017, seven deaths under 1 year were counted and no dead foetuses were reported.
There were also 753 marriages, up by 101 (+15,5%) from the same period of 2016.
