Official figures show that the natural change remained negative
Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that in 2017, the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a natural decrease of 553 persons (-756 in 2016).
In 2017, 1,960 live births to mothers living in RAM were recorded, corresponding to an increase of 5.5% compared to the previous year (1,858).
There were 2 513 deaths during 2017, down by 3.9% from the previous year (2,614).
The natural change went from -756 to -553 individuals.
In the year of reference, 7 deaths under 1 year and one dead fetuses were registered (5 deaths under 1 year and 2 dead fetuses in 2016).
There were also 962 marriages, up by 11.7 % over 2016 (861).
