Natural change remained negative. Number of births and deaths increased year-on-year
Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that in the first three quarters of 2018, the number of live births (1,443) increased by 2.7% from the corresponding period of 2017 (1,405).
Until the month of September, the number of deaths stood at 2,114, rising by 209, which represents a 11.0% growth over the same period of 2017.
The combination of the data from January to September 2018 for live births and deaths show that the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a natural decrease (-671 persons) more pronounced than in the same period of 2017 (-500 persons).
In the first nine months of 2018, 4 deaths under 1 year were counted and 4 dead foetuses were reported.
In the period of reference, 707 marriages took place in the registry offices of the Region, down by 47 (-6.2%) from the same period of 2017.
