In the 1st quarter of 2020
Year-on-year decrease in the number of deaths contributed to a smaller natural decrease of population
Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that in the first quarter of 2020, the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a negative natural change (-269 persons), since the number of live births in this period (442) was smaller than the number of deaths (711). In the same period of 2019, the natural change had also been negative (-317 persons, representing the difference between 466 live births and 783 deaths).
In the first three months of 2020, 1 death under 1 year was counted and 1 dead fetuses.
In the period of reference, 150 marriages took place in the registry offices of the Region, up by 9 from the same period of 2019.
