In the 1st half of 2020
Number of births and deaths dropped year-on-year
Preliminary data of demographic statistics show that in the first half of 2020, the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a negative natural change (-485 persons), since the number of live births in this period (883) was smaller than the number of deaths (1,368). In the same period of 2019, the natural change had also been negative (-474 persons, the difference between 938 live births and 1,412 deaths).
In the first six months of 2020, 4 deaths under 1 year and 3 dead foetuses were reported.
In the period of reference, 203 marriages took place in the registry offices of the Region, down by 151 from the same period of 2019, representing a substantial decrease of 42.7%.
