DREM marks the International Day of Older Persons with a special publication that answers 10 questions

On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM) has released a special edition of Demography in Figures: Infographics Inspired by 10 Questions.

This publication aims to address various questions concerning the demographic evolution of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The answers are based on three distinct sources: the Demographic Statistics of Statistics Portugal (INE/DREM, 1990-2024), the Household Budget Survey (INE/DREM, 2022/2023), the Population and Housing Census (Censuses, 2001-2021) and the Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (INE/DREM, 2021-2023).

In this special edition of the International Day of Older Persons, the publication seeks to answer the following questions:

    1. How many older persons live in the Region?
    2. What is the probability of surviving to the age of 65?
    3. How many older persons are still getting married?
    4. Is it common for older persons of the same sex to get married?
    5. How many older persons live alone?
    6. How many older persons live in institutional households?
    7. How many older persons have a disability in walking or climbing steps?
    8. How do older persons perceive their health?
