In the first nine months of 2015

Number of live births was higher than in the corresponding period of 2014 

Provisional data of demographic statistics show that in the first three quarters of 2015, the number of live births (1,409) was higher than in the corresponding period of 2014 (1,272).

Until the month of September, the number of deaths  stood at 1,990, dropping by 3.4% over the same period of 2014.

The combination of the data for live births and deaths from January to September 2015 shows that the Autonomous Region of Madeira registered a negative natural change (-581 persons), although less pronounced than in 2014 (-787 persons).

In the first nine months of 2015, five deaths under 1 year and seven dead fetuses were registered.

There were also 594 marriages, down by 18 over the same period of 2014.
