Number of building permits and completed buildings increased in the Autonomous Region of Madeira compared to the previous year
In 2021, 466 buildings were licensed, up by 14 (+3.1%) when compared with the previous year (452). The number of completed buildings rose by 25.4% to a total of 351 compared to 2020 (280). In both variables, highs of the last years were recorded. Regarding building permits, the figure for 2020 was the highest since 2012, while the number for completed buildings is an eight-year maximum.
69.3% of the licenses of construction and demolition works were for new constructions (323), 87.6% of which were destined for family housing (283). From these constructions resulted the licensing of 770 dwellings, up by 61.8% from 2020 (476).
As for the completed buildings (351), 62.4% of these buildings were new constructions for family housing (219). In 2021, the number of completed dwellings in new constructions for family housing stood at 423, increasing by 24.8% over the previous year (339).
In the 4th quarter of 2021, the number of buildings permits (120) increased by 6.2% when compared to the same quarter of the previous year, while the increase in the number of completed buildings was 16.7% (98).
