In the 1^st quarter of 2026

Building permits grew 12.7% year-on-year, while completed buildings increased by 3.5%

According to preliminary data compiled by the Regional Statistics Directorate of Madeira (DREM) from the Municipal Councils of the Region, within the framework of the Urban Operations Indicators System, in the 1^st quarter of 2026, 178 buildings were licensed, 20 more (+12.7%) than in the same period of 2025 (158). In turn, completed buildings stood at 88, representing an increase of 3.5% compared to the 1^st quarter of 2025 (85).

Of the building and demolition works licensed, 73.0% corresponded to new constructions (130), of which 90.8% were intended for family housing (118). These works gave rise to the licensing of 325 dwellings in new constructions for family housing, 7.9% fewer than in the 1^st quarter of 2025 (353).

As regards completed buildings (88), 73.9% concerned new constructions for family housing (65). With regard to dwellings completed in new constructions for family housing (194), the results point to a decrease of 14.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year (226).
