Diseases of the circulatory system remained as the most important death cause in the Region
The Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira releases today data on causes of death for 2015, which will be included in the publication “Health Statistics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira-2016”.
In 2015, the diseases of the circulatory system remained as the main cause of death in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM), generating 737 deaths, i.e. 28.2% of the 2.611 deaths (28.5% in 2014). In this group of diseases, the strokes were responsible for 237 deaths (a 9.1% share).
The diseases of the respiratory system were the second most important cause of death, generating 549 deaths, i.e. 21.0% of the total (18.1% in the previous year). Pneumonia culminated in 375 deaths, 14.3% of the total.
Malignant neoplasms were the third most important death cause in the Region in 2015, contributing with 525 deaths, 20.1% of the total (22.3% in 2014). In this group of diseases, larynx and trachea/bronchial/lung tumors killed 82 people (3.1% of the total number of deaths).
