In 2020
Deliveries by mothers residing in the Autonomous Region of Madeira decreased by 1.1%
1,842 deliveries by mothers residing in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) were carried out in 2020, representing a 1.1% decrease over 2019 (1,862 deliveries). Twenty three were twins births. In the year of reference, 77.3% of the deliveries were from mothers aged between 25 and 39 years, 14.1% from mothers aged between 14 and 24 years and 8.6% from mothers with 40 years or over (the same percentage as in the previous year). The number of young mothers (under 25 years old) dropped by 5.8% compared to 2019, and a delivery by a mother with 14 years old was recorded (the first since 2014). However the age group that stands out is of mothers aged between 30 and 36 years old (42.8% of the deliveries).
It should be noted that 94.4% of the pregnancies lasted 37 weeks or over and 4.9% had a duration inferior to 37 weeks.
The data now released will be included in the publication “Health Statistics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira – 2020”, which will be made available in December 2021.
