Hospitals of the Autonomous Region of Madeira had more hospitalisations and less outpatient appointments
The provisional data of the Hospital Survey show that, in 2013, there were nine hospitals in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, three of them official and the remaining six private.
In the year of reference, the average number of used hospital beds stood at 1,867 (average of the four quarters), representing a ratio of 7.1 beds per 1,000 inhabitants (the same as in 2012).
25,026 persons stayed overnight as inpatients (24,923 in 2012), while the number of outpatient appointments reached 313,479, less than the previous year (315,194).
11,149 major and medium surgeries were performed, 17.1% of which were urgent. In 2013, the number of small surgeries dropped by 7.2% to 9,529 (10,270 in 2012).
In 2013, 4.6 million complementary exams were required, 81.2% of which clinical analyses.
