In 2023
An additional point of sale for non-prescription medicines emerged in the Autonomous Region of Madeira
In 2023, the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) had 65 pharmacies, 1 mobile pharmaceutical station, and 23 points of sale for non-prescription medicines. Compared to the previous year, an additional point of sale for non-prescription medicines was established in the municipality of Funchal.
Based on the population estimates for 2023, the municipality of Santana exhibited the highest number of pharmacies and mobile pharmaceutical stations per 10,000 inhabitants (4.6), followed by Porto Moniz with 4.0. Conversely, the municipality of Santa Cruz recorded the lowest value, with only 1.6 per 10,000 inhabitants, followed by Porto Santo with 1.8. Despite the number of these establishments remaining constant from 2022, the increase in population between 2022 and 2023 led to a decrease in the number of pharmacies and mobile pharmaceutical stations per 10,000 inhabitants in the municipalities of Porto Santo (1.9 in 2022; 1.8 in 2023), Câmara de Lobos (2.5 in 2022; 2.4 in 2023), and São Vicente (6.2 in 2022; 6.0 in 2023).
These data were provided by the Regional Health Directorate and are part of the publication "Health Statistics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira 2023," the complete edition of which will be released in the first quarter of 2025.
