In 2024
Autonomous Region of Madeira records one fewer point of sale for non-prescription medicines

In 2024, the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM) had 65 pharmacies, one mobile pharmaceutical station, and 22 points of sale for non-prescription medicines. Compared with the previous year, there was one fewer point of sale for non-prescription medicines in the municipality of Santa Cruz.

Based on the estimated resident population for 2024, the municipality of São Vicente recorded the highest number of pharmacies and mobile pharmaceutical stations per 10 000 inhabitants (5.9), followed by Santana with 4.6. In contrast, Santa Cruz recorded the lowest value, with only 1.6 establishments per 10 000 inhabitants, followed by Porto Santo with 1.7.

Although the number of these establishments remained unchanged from 2023, the population increase between 2023 and 2024 led to a decrease in the number of pharmacies and mobile pharmaceutical stations per 10 000 inhabitants in the Region, from 2.6 to 2.5 establishments.

These data were provided by the Regional Health Directorate and are part of the publication Health Statistics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira 2024, the complete edition of which will be released in the first quarter of 2026.
