The Region's only mobile pharmacy outlet was closed
In 2025, there were 65 pharmacies and 22 outlets selling non-prescription medicines in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ARM). Compared with the previous year, it should be noted that the Region's only mobile pharmacy outlet, located in the municipality of Ribeira Brava, was closed, while one additional outlet selling non-prescription medicines was recorded in the municipality of Funchal and another was closed in the municipality of Santa Cruz.
Considering the resident population estimates for 2025, the municipality of São Vicente had the highest number of pharmacies and mobile pharmacy outlets per 10 000 inhabitants (6.0), followed by Santana with 4.5. By contrast, the municipality of Porto Santo had the lowest value, with only 1.4 per 10 000 inhabitants, followed by Santa Cruz with 1.6.
These data were provided by the Regional Directorate of Health and form an integral part of the publication "Health Statistics of the ARM 2025", the full edition of which will be released in the 1st quarter of 2027.
