Commercialisation of banana increased by 14.7% compared to the previous year

According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), 20,290.6 tonnes of bananas produced in Madeira were commercialised in 2016 (up by 2,597.1 tonnes from 2015, i.e. +14.7%). This is the highest value since the year 2000.

Of that total, 85.4% was destined for export (85.0% in 2015).

The overall growth was determined by the increase in the commercialisation of the extra class by 27.2%, which reached an historical maximum (13.622.6 tonnes marketed), while the commercialisation of banana of the classes I and II decreased by 1.6% and 7.6%, respectively.
