In the first four months of 2017

Commercialisation of banana decreased by 2.8% year-on-year

According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), in the first four months of 2017, the commercialisation of locally produced banana stood at 4,390.7  tonnes, down by 127.4 tons from the same period of 2016 (-2.8%). Of that total, 76.5% was dispatched, mainly to Mainland Portugal.

The decline in the banana production was determined by the decrease in the “Extra” class (-6.6%). The increases in the commercialisation of Class I (3.9%) and Class II (4.8%) banana were not enough to offset that drop.
