Commercialisation of banana increased by 1.7% compared to the same period of 2016
According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), in the first eight months of 2017, the commercialisation of locally grown banana stood at 13,527.9 tonnes, up by 225.7 tonnes when compared to the same period of 2016. 83.9% was dispatched, mainly to Mainland Portugal.
There were increases in all classes: class I registered the higher growth (+5.4%), followed by Extra (+1.0%) and class II (+0.7%).
May was the month with the most significant growth (+39.4%) while the maximum value of commercialized banana was registered in August (2,818.6 tonnes).
