Commercialisation of banana increased by 8.8% compared to the previous year
According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), 22,082.4 tonnes of bananas produced in Madeira were commercialised in 2017 (up by 1,791.8 tonnes from 2016, i.e. +8.8%). This is the highest value since the year 1998.
Of that total, 85.5% was dispatched, mainly to Mainland Portugal (85.4% in 2016).
The overall growth was determined by the increase in the commercialisation of the extra class and class I (+11.1% and +10.3%, respectively), while the commercialisation of banana of class II decreased by 2.6%.
