Commercialisation of banana increased by 23.2% year-on-year
According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), in the first four months of 2020, the commercialisation of locally produced banana stood at 5,146.4 tonnes, up by 969.4 tonnes from the same period of 2019 (+23.2%).
Of that total, 77.9% was dispatched, mainly to Mainland Portugal.
This growth was not shared by all classes. While “Extra” and Class I increased by 32.0% and 8.5%, respectively, there was a 4.0% drop in Class II.
It should be noted that it is the highest value of commercialization of banana for the 1st quarter, given the series available at DREM (since 1999).
