Commercialisation of banana increased by 2.5% compared to the same period of 2019
According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), in the first eight months of 2020, the commercialisation of locally grown banana stood at 13,632.1 tonnes, up by 336.9 tonnes when compared to the same period of 2019. 83.9% was dispatched, mainly to Mainland Portugal.
This growth was not shared by all classes. In fact, only the “Extra” increased by 8.8%, with Class I and Class II decreasing by 9.4% and 25.1% respectively.
This year, the highest value of commercialized banana was registered in July (2,615.7 tonnes) and the lowest in February (1 038.0 tonnes).
It should be noted that while in the 1st quadrimester there was a year-on-year growth of 23.2% in the commercialization of banana, in the 2nd quadrimester there was a 6.9% drop.
