In the first four months of 2022
Commercialisation of banana increased by 18.4% year-on-year
According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), in the first four months of 2022, the commercialisation of locally produced banana stood at 5,584.5 tonnes, up by 867.0 tonnes from the same period of 2021 (+18.4%).
Of that total, 80.6% was dispatched (79.3% in the 1st four months of 2021), mostly to mainland Portugal.
This growth was not shared by all classes. Compared to the same period of 2021, “Extra” and Class I increased by 20.3% and 18.6%, respectively, while there was a 0.7% drop in Class II.
April was the month with the highest volume of commercialised banana (1,526.6 tonnes). February had the lowest volume of commercialised banana (1,257.6 tonnes), however it was the month with the sharpest growth (+42.0%).
