Commercialisation of banana increased 18.0% compared to 2013
According to the data provided by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development (DRADR), in 2014, 18,170.3 tons of bananas produced in Madeira were commercialised (2.766,6 tons more than in 2013).
Of that total, 86.1% was destined for export.
All the categories contributed to this increase, mainly extra (+23.3%), while the commercialisation of banana of the 1st and 2nd categories grew by +13.1% and +7.8%, respectively.
It is the highest quantity of commercialised banana since 2004, although in this year the percentage of banana of the “extra” category was only 42.1%.
