Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine increased by 5.5% in volume and decreased by 5.9% in value compared to the year-ago quarter
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine stood at 756,528 litres, generating first sale receipts of 4.3 million euros. When compared with the corresponding period of 2016, the quantities sold increased by 5.5% while the sales value decreased by 5.9%.
For the January to June period, the sales volume and receipts increased by 8.6% and 3.0% year-on-year.
It should be highlighted that in the first six months of 2017 there was a decrease in the exports for Great Britain (-35.1% in volume and -51.7% in value), while the “Madeira” wine commercialised to Mainland Portugal increased by 85.2% in volume and by 67.8% in value. Exports to the Japan also rose by 56.2% in volume and by 28.0% in receipts.
