Commercialisation of “Madeira” Wine decreased by 10.7% in volume and increased 6.4% in value
According to data provided by the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute, P.I., the commercialisation of “Madeira” wine topped 741,222 litres, generating first sale receipts of 4.6 million euros. When compared with the corresponding period of 2016, the quantities sold decreased by 10.7% while the sales value increased by 6.4%.
For the period January to September 2017, the year-on-year change rate of sales value as well as the sales volume were positive (+1.3% and +4.2%, respectively).
It should be highlighted that in first nine months of 2017, exports to the Mainland Portugal recorded year-on-year increases of 64.5% in volume and 51.5% in first sale receipts. There was also a growth in the exports to Japan (+31.6% in volume and +15.1% in value). Inversely, the Great Britain market presented negative change rates (-23.8% in the quantities sold and -27.8% in value).
